Merrell's House of Art, Austin, TX
Dan Merrell, artist

Merrell's House of Art was founded in 1977 by Austin artist, Dan Merrell.

Dan moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas after serving almost six years as a pilot in the United States Air Force, having received a medical discharge.  With his degree in Studio Art, Dan began refining his artistic skills and soon realized his specialty was water colors. In addition to painting for his own enjoyment, he has also pleased many of his clients with custom portraits of their homes and pets.

In 1977 Dan learned to frame his own art, and has since developed a thriving framing business. He has become a sought-after picture framer, one of a few in Austin who has received certification in paper, art and memorabilia preservation. He was one of the first 50 framers in the United States to pass the difficult and extensive exam to become a Certified Picture Framer (CPF®). He has been a member of the Professional Picture Framing Association (PPFA) since 1980, having served most of that time as an officer of the Central Texas chapter.

Dan displayed his artwork at the annual Artists Harvest in Austin for more than 20 years. Since 2000, he has held a highly successful annual one-man show which showcases his original artwork and his unique framing design.
